Personality
Scallop cant really say too much to those that reside above the surface due to having no vocal chords, so he communicates with gestures and body actions. He likes to swim around in his hamster ball filled with water to see the world.
Design traits
One of scallops most distinctive features for a sea angel/sea butterfly aside from his colour, is probably the fact that tentacles can burst out of his face to eat things.
When people see this they often become horrified thinking that something happened to him, when in fact its a perfectly natural ability that evolution has provided! He often stores these tentacles in his mouth which also happens to form his round little head.
He uses his antennae to detect vibrations in the water, which essentially is his hearing... Man what i wouldn't give for sonar hearing!
History and inspiration
So Scallops design was partially inspired by the sea butterflies in animal crossing new horizons where I found out about them, They just seemed so cute that I had to doodle one and well make a character out of him. The exploding face was also a super appealing idea to me, as it can make people go "aww how cu- OH MY GOSH WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS FACE!?!"
